A recently discovered asteroid, 600 metres wide, passes 300,000 miles from earth today. It will not collide with the earth. Astronomers have an opportunity to study it.

Budget reduction for higher education in Malaysia

The 2016 budget allocates RM13.378 bilion for higher education compared with RM15.785 in 2015. Public universities have to look for alternative source of financing, the private sector. This is contained in the Education Development Masterplan 2015-2025 (Higher Education): produce value-driven talent with first class mentality. We pay full attention to the implementation. Will private universities attract more students? Will the standard of public universities go down?

Haze and state of emergency

President Jakowi cuts short his visit to the United States and Vice-President Yusoh Kalla mentions declaration of the state of emergency because forest fires spread relentlessly. Apparently, Indonesia will take action against anybody who starts the fires.

Monsoon and houses for 2014 flood victims

Monsoon season begins. All must be fully prepared especially those in the East Coast, Peninsula. They hope that flooding as severe as that in 2014 will not be repeated. Many of the victims are still in temporary camps. We ask the Government to announce the situation of the 2600 units of houses meant for them.

Defence Ministry and 2016 budget allocation.

Budget 2016 allocates RM17.3 billion to the Defence Ministry to buy weapons including 6 Littoral Combatant Ships, Very Short Range Air Defence Weapons System, armoured  vehicles,  A-400M airbus and Unmanned Airborne System. The Government should ensure that these weapons are value for money, without irregularities.

Management of floods and earthquake

2016 budget allocates RM180 million for establishing the National Disaster Management Agency, RM730 million for Flood Mitigation Projects and RM60 million to implement the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Programme and a National Earthquake and Tsunami Sub-Centre in Sabah. The allocations must be used properly. Please complete the 2600 units of houses promised the flood victims of 2014.

Health allocation and 2016 budget

The allocation for health in the 2016 budget is RM23.031 billion, RM281 million less than that of 2015. Although health allocation is complicated, Malaysians hope that the health service will be better.

Total 2016 budget RM267.2 billion

The 2016 budget totals RM267.2 billion and the revenue is estimated at RM225.7 billion. The deficit is RM 41.5 billion. In the uncertain economic situation, we hope that the revenue will be as estimated and the budget deficit will not increase.

Memorandum of understanding on jerebu

Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi regrets that Indonesia has been dragging her feet since July 2015 on the memorandum of understanding regarding haze to bring those who breach the agreement to court. We encourage Indonesia to sign the memorandum.

Digital Malaysia by 2020


Datuk Seri Najib wants to achieve digital economy by 2020. Now it is said to contribute RM295 billion to the revenue. The Communications and Multimedia Minister can tell us the measures to overcome the weaknesses including providing packages with faster broadband and reasonable price. Is it true that the country has broadband penetration rate of 72.2%  per 100 households with the average internet speed of 5 megabits per second (Thailand 20.83 Mbps)?

Nobel Prize for Medicine 2015, three winners.

Three scientists won the Nobel Prize for Medicine 2015. Campbell, born in Ireland but working in the United States, and Omura from Japan, discovered Ivermectin for treating parasites, River blindness and Filariasis. Tu from China did research based on 1600-year-old writing to find Artemisinin which is effective against malaria.

The Dutch Safety Board Report confirms that MH17 was shot down by Russian-made missile Buk. The Russian Government says the missle was over the date of expiry of 25 years and hence not used by Russia. Find the culprits and bring them to court.

Indonesia asks other countries to help

Indonesia asks Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Russia to help extinguish forest fires. Malaysia should send her team and effective equipment quickly to quell forest fires in Sumatra such as Palembang. ASEAN can play a meaningful part in overcoming the haze puzzle.

According to a media report quoting Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BPNP), rainy season at the end of October 2015, will extinguish forest fires. We have to put up with the haze for probably one more month. We hope that Indonesian Government increases its efforts to prevent forest fires.

On 1September, 2015, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry introduced Solid Waste Separation Project in several states such as Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. It gives information to 1.7 million KL cityfolks who create 2400 tonnes of rubbish a day . In June, 2016, it will begin the enforcement.
