All 144 local authorities must avoid collecting more taxes, including extra parking fees.

DAP National Deputy Chairman and MP for Kepong Dr Tan Seng Giaw reiterates that the Federal Government must remind all local authorities to refrain from increasing taxes, including extra parking fees.

The five Pakatan state governments must show a good example. Hitherto, they have not imposed extra taxes.

Dr Tan mentioned the matter above when he took part in the debate on the motion regarding the increase in petrol price by 40 to 63% and the restructuring of subsidy on 23.6.2008.

About two weeks ago, City Hall Kuala Lumpur (CHKL) intended to increase the existing parking fees in the city and the use of new system. Then, the Datuk Bandar clarified that it would not introduce the new system and the new fees. On the other hand, CHKL continues to erect parking meters in many corners of the city. This has aroused the feeling of city folks.

For example, new parking meters are found in Kepong areas such as Jinjang, Kepong Central, Kepong Baru, Metro Prima, Entrepreneurs' Park, and Bukit Maluri. People are unhappy.

The petrol price hike, the inflation and the downturn in business generally have increased the burden on the people. Any new taxes including new parking fees put more strain on the public. Hence, the Cenral Government must ensure that all 144 local authorities do not have new or extra taxes.

The parking charges at Metro Prima, Kepong is very punishing.

Let me explain: The charges are for 7 days a week from 730 am to 10.30 pm. The penalty is a RM300.00 fine.

Is this legal?

When they're ready to implement the parking collection. Are they making more or developing further on this land of Kepong? Think.
