Would a high-impact project at the Sungai Besi military airport be within the KL Structural Plan?
DAP National Deputy Chairman and MP for Kepong Dr Tan Seng Giaw calls on the Federal Government to let us know whether the proposed high-impact project at Sungai Besi Military Airport is consistent with the Kuala Lumpur Structural Plan.
Dr Tan is concerned with the intention of the Central Government to develop high-impact projects in over 1,000 hectares of government-owned land in and around KL.
The Government has set up a multi-billion special fund to implement high-impact projects such as on one of the few vacant land in KL like the Sungai Besi Airport. Then, there are talks about 6% economic growth annually, overseas investment like Qatar and Vision 2020--to be a fully developed nation by 2020.
KL has a structural plan until 2020. This aims to make the city an international tropical garden city of light. This means that we have to preserve as much vacant land as possible, otherwise where do we have gerdens.
We must know the details of how the government propose to convert the abovementioned airport land into a growth centre with various features of a modern city--a city within the KL city.
The Government must be seen to be fair, just and transparent. The high-impact project should give equally high impact on the understanding of the people regarding the project.
Dr Tan Seng Giaw
