Calligraphy means talents without parallel

The calligraphy shows a quotation from a literary giant Su Shi, Song Dynasty over 1000 years. It means talents without parallel. Malaysia wants to promote talents. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris repeats MyMaster programme with 15,000 scholarships and MyPhD programme with 5000 scholarships. The revised 2016 allocation for these programmes is RM300 million. There are 20 scholarships for students with the best SPM results to go to universities anywhere in the world. Lets hope that the selection of candidates for scholarships is fair and international standard is achieved. How did America attract Einstein?

UK Prime Minister renegotiated with EU

United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister David Cameron held a special Cabinet meeting today, Saturday, to discuss the issue of UK's special status in European Union after negotiation. British people will vote in a referendum on 23.6.2016 to decide on whether to remain in EU. Cameron says the UK has a better future in a reformed EU.

The issue of immigrant workers has been for years

All fields require workers. For many years, Malaysia has had millions of foreign workers. Recently, the Government announced approving 1.5 million workers from Bangladesh in the next three years. We can neither make head nor tail of this. Now, Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Riot, says that he does not know the number and that it depends on the requests from factories, plantations and businesses. The Government must overcome bureaucracy, unreasonable payments and attitude towards those who need workers.

A messaging centre in KL

Yesterday, Datuk Seri Zahid met UK minister Philip Dunne in Kuala Lumpur and talked of international cooperation to fight IS or Daesh and setting up messaging centre to combat extremist views such as IS's messages in cyberspace. Lets hope that no more Malaysians will join IS.

Online register for illegal immigrants

The Director-General of Immigration Department Datuk Sarki says that online register for illegal immigrants is RM1200 a person. If other costs such as visa and permit are included, an employer may have to pay over RM3000. The Government appoints two companies and one consortium (three companies) to manage the registration. The people feel that it creates chances for the companies. How many millions of illegal immigrants in the country?

US-ASEAN ties Summit

Datuk Seri Najib attends the US-ASEAN Summit in Los Angelis. The total trade between America and ASEAN is about USD240 billion a year, America and Malaysia US12 billion; between China and ASEAN USD500 bilion and China and Malaysia USD100 billion. Malaysia needs to enhance good relations with countries such as America and China.

Foreign workers

The Governments of Malaysia and Bangladesh arrange for 1.5 million persons to work in this country. Now, we have 2.2 million legal workers and unknown number of illegals (possibly 8 or 10 million). This issue is very complicated.

German engineering degrees & students on scholarship

The Government must explain the types of German engineering degrees which are not recognized in Malaysia? We understand that since the 90s over 650 students on scholarships went to Swabian University, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, for special engineering programme. Are there other programmes?

Cancer does not care who you are or what you are. World Health Organization says that in 2012, 8.2 million people died of cancer. Each year, there are 14 million new cases in the world. The number increases. Support cancer research.

World Health Organization and Zika

WHO declares Zika virus an international public health emergency. It suspects that the virus damages babies' brain and that four million people are infected. Aedes mosquitoes carry Dengue and Zika viruses. Malaysia must eradicate Aedes effectively. Prevent Zika from coming to the country.
