Quality of medicines.
       Diseases such as cancer are common and treatment is expensive. Using alternatives such as cheaper biosimilar medicines can help. Malaysia must ensure that there is effective control of the quality of these drugs.

     Condolences to the families of the owner of Leicester, the late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and four others who died in a helicopter crash a few minutes after the club drew with West Ham United 1:1 on 27 October, 2018.
     Vichai led Leicester to be champions of the English Premier League in 2016.

     Malaysian players did try. At the finals，China won three titles, Japan one and Korea one. It looks as though China is emerging from its transition from older to younger players. Chen Long won the men's singles, showing that he may be preparing for the World Championship in 2019 and the Olympics in 2020.

     Journalist Jamal Khashoggi expressed dissenting views against the ruling elite. He was murdered premeditatedly at the Saudi Arabia Consulate in Istanbul Turkey on 2 October, 2018. This attracts attention of the world.

The journalist wrote critically,

The consulate murder was done ferociously,
     The rule of law must be practised.

     It was bright sunlight in the morning, dark cloud at midday and rain in the afternoon in Petaling Jaya today. Temperature 32°C and Air Pollution Index 60. Haze? What is the result of the common efforts among Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia on haze?

     This disaster has resulted in some workers buried. We hope that the Search-and-Rescue team recovers all the bodies soon. Condolences to the families of the victims.
     There must be a detailed inquiry into the catastrophe.

Malaysian Government reiterates that there must not be a wide income gap between the rich and the poor or between races. All projects must be monitored effectively without corruption and leakages.

     In his speech on the Mid-Term Review of the 11th Malaysia Plan today, Tun Mahathir says that MACC will be responsible only to Parliament. The parliamentary Select Committee on MACC must be truly effective.

     Many countries have immigrants and foreign workers. This issue is controversial, causing political changes such as in the United States and Germany. Whatever results of surveys, Malaysia has to be seen to be effective and fair in dealing with the issue.

Climate change and disasters

Humans destroy forests and produce more carbon dioxide. The earth is warmer. Typhoons, hurricanes, floods and wild fires become more dangerous and frequent. The US President Donald Trump does not agree.

Smart cities

Smart cities.     City folks are interested in how Malaysian cities become smart, such as Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Penang. For example, how are traffic and empty spaces managed?

Income inequality.

Income inequality is  universal. It is complex. For example, the top 10% of earners have incomes more than seven times as large as those of the bottom 10%.
     Malaysians hope that all economic data reflect the truth and that there are gradual and comprehensive efforts to deal with corruption, economic growth, productivity, wealth distribution and opportunities.

Typhoons, hurricanes

We sympathise with victims of very strong winds such as typhoons and hurricanes. There were hurricanes Irma, Matthew and Maria. Now, hurricane Michael, at 155 miles an hour, has devastated the coast of Florida. Do they have anything to do with climate change? Trump has his ideas?

Manifesto.     Tun Mahathir says, "We made the manifesto for the 14th general election, thinking we would not be the government.
     "Now we are the government and this manifesto is a big burden.
      "I am also opposed to the abolition of tolls and this is included in the manifesto."

The World Health Organization says that 300 million people
suffer from depression in the world and 66 million with dementia. The effects on economy may be US$16 trillion by 2030.
    Malaysia must review the mental health policy and the number of citizens having depression.

Abolition of death penalty.     Malaysia will have to get a bill passed for this in the Dewan Rakyat. Countries such as Australia, Canada and the UK no longer have capital punishment. What do you think?

Public fund.
Malaysian Government owns Khazanah Nasional Berhad that is supposed to use the best practices to save and manage commercial assets. The realizable assets are about RM160 billion. These are public fund.

US-China trade war

Trump says he will win in the trade war with China, using his tariff weapon. International Monetary Fund warns that this fight 'risks making the world a poorer and more dangerous place.'

طClimate change.  Two American economists, William  Nordhaus (77) and Paul M Romer (62) are awarded the Nobel Prize for economics. They try to get governments to cooperate on climate change and growth, continuing their efforts on Trump.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change meets in South Korea: scientists are worried that if the earth temperature increases by more than 1.5 Celsius, the consequences will be serious. For example, sea level will rise further and natural disasters will be more frequent.

Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (Malaysia)says it will not defend farmers who violate regulations on pesticides. Singapore refuses to import iceberg lettuce that contains pesticide fipronil. The ministry stops the sale of the vegetable.
     Malaysia needs an effective supervision of the use of chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics and pigments in agriculture.

Trump's nominee Brett Kavanaugh has been sworn in as a Supreme Court judge after the US Senate confirmed the nomination by 50 to 48 votes amid allegations of sexual misconduct. The appointment is more political.

Sexual violence in war.     Dr Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad have won the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. As a gynaecologist, Denis treats many victims of rape. Nokia, a Yazidi, Iraq, was kidnapped and forced to be a sex slave by extremists of Islamic State. Both winners campaign against sexual violence as a weapon of war.

Handphone has many uses. Hans，a Dane with impaired eyesight, comes up with 'Be My Eyes' application. It borrows another person's eyes to help the handicapped to see. We hope that this can truly help persons with eyesight problem.

Education Minister counts 394 Malaysian schools repaired in the last five months, saying that 2016 budget allocation will focus on putting schools into good condition. Teachers and parents hope that this will be seen to be reasonably done.

Six firemen died

Inquiry into the tragedy.
There must be an inquiry into the cause of death of six fireman who tried to rescue a teenager in a mining pool in Puchong, Malaysia. Condolences to their families.

The question of gender should not arise in science. Three scientists have won the Nobel Prize for chemistry for their work on evolutionary science: Frances H. Arnold (US), George P Smith (US) and Gregory P Winter (UK). Frances shows that she is as good as men.

Improve social security

Social Security in Malaysia.     There is a need to improve coverage, equality and quality of social security, including the efficiency of Social Security Organization (SOCSO) and its disability benefits. The Deputy Prime Minister has referred to about 13.7 million people who do not have social security protection in the country.

Donna Strickland (Canada), Arthur Ashlin (US) and Gerard Mourou (France) have worn the Nobel Prize for physics in the field of laser. Donna shows women are just as brilliant. This is good for physics and gender equality.

Tun Mahathir feels that the limited fund will be used in education development as a priority.
     Malaysian education must keep up with the time. Is university administration trying to achieve world standard?
