The year 2013
Happy New Year.
Traffic accidents are frequent in Malaysia. Every year over 6,000 persons died on the roads. All concerned must try their utmost to reduce accidents. Recently, the Transport Ministry implements the Automatic Enforcement System (AES). This is controversial.

The people continue to be concerned about illicit funds flowing out of Malaysia. For example, an estimate shows that in 2009 at leat RM90 billion flowed out of this country. In 2010, it was RM196 billion. The Central Government has yet to announce its estimates of the country's loss due to illicit funds & the effective measures to put a stop to such activities.
MRT Corp says that the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT project will not cost over RM23 bil. The Central Government should let the people know from the beginning such as the number of internationally renown MRT contractors up to the final choice of Gamuda. What are the criteria for the selection of the main contractor? These are necessary to overcome the suspicion that there is lack of transparency.
Panel Perundingan & Pencegahan Rasuah mengesyor mewajibkan parti politik mengemukakan senarai calon Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-13 (PRU) untuk proses tapisan Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM).
Today, the DAP National Congress in Penang raises the spirit of the party and galvanizes the energy from the whole country to face the coming general elections together with PAS and PKR. We try our best. PR has its policies against those of BN in all fields. For example, PR aims to create a balanced national budget and to reduce the national debt. Besides the national language, PR believes in a multilingual system. We fight against leakages and corruption.
The DAP National Congress in Penang on 15 & 16 December, 2012 aims to create a spirited atmosphere to face the 13th General Elections. This includes the fostering of unity and galvanizing of energy in the whole country to strengthen the Pakatan Rakyat strength.
PM YAB Najib believes that Iskandar Malaysia has performed beyond expectations this year with committed investments of nearly RM20 billion this year and a total of RM105 billion. We hope that these commitments will be turned into real investments. The PM must look seriously into how clean and effective is the Iskandar administration. The reduction in bureaucracy and corruption are important factors to attract more investments.
Today, four ministers have issued a joint statement on exporting Lynas waste to other countries. They have not explained the provisions of international laws on this type of waste. We like to know which countries can import radio-active waste & how will the Lynas waste be turned into exportable products. Having exported rare earth ore to Kuantan, the Australian Government has not said anything on taking back Lynas waste.
Pakatan Rakyat, PR, was scheduled to have its whistle-stop gathering at a vacant land beside the Malacca State Mosque. It cleared the land. At the last minute, the landowner withdrew permission. Then, I was told UMNO-BN used it for its own rally. The PR gathering was shifted to the vacant space in front of Malacca DAP headquarters: thousands of people thronged the place to hear PR policies as opposed to those of UMNO-BN.
It is true that investors are interested in a nation's image. Malaysia's Corruption Perception Index of 54 compared to Singapore
PM YAB Najib wants to deliver what he has promised after the coming general election. This includes many aspects such as transformation of economy, more effective government service, transparency, eradication of corruption & attraction of talents. There are many irregularities, arrogance of administrators, leakages and other weaknesses. The people would like to know how this Father of Transformation has transformed Malaysia into a truly developed nation.
There is a call for memorandum of understanding (MOU) for candidates. If there is MOU, it has to include various things including a clean Election Commission, expenditure within legal limits & good behaviour of candidates & their followers in the general elections.
On 1.8.05, the Govt set up One Stop Centre (OSC) for legal foreign workers. While the problems of foreign workers occur in many countries, those in Malaysia are serious. There are also many illegal foreign workers; this year the Home Ministry attempted to deal with them. Other agencies such as Human Resources Ministry are also involved. People are suspicious of the effectiveness of OSC & the action of the Home Ministry.
The Government says there are 1.46 million civil servants for 28.62 million Malaysians. PM Dept insists that it is always trying to rationalise the size of civil service. The people are watching the promised transformation of the service. Hitherto, the signs of improvement are not apparent. We need effective action to reduce bureaucracy.
Yesterday, Lynas has started operation, claiming that its waste products will be sold and that the factory poses no health risk to the population. The people are naturally concerned. Australia has rare earth ore which is exported to Kuantan. But, Malaysians like to know the number of rare earth factories operating in that country and the ways the waste products are disposed. Hitherto, there is no such information.
In the coming general elections, Malaysians will be able to choose between PR and BN based on their policies on all sectors. The voters will have to decide whether they will let Umno-BN have two-third majority and recapture the four PR states as claimed by Umno at its vociferous assembly. After 55 years, the people can open their eyes and look at the records including irregularities, corruption, bureaucracy and leakages. Although YAB Najib is hailed as the Father of Transformation, Malaysians know whether the dilapidated system of Umno-BN can truly be transformed.
